What happens when you compare a 2000 Audi S4 to a 2000 Audi A6, both with the 2.7 liter twin turbo engine? This is what happens.

Kinja'd!!!

S4 0-60 (MT): 5.9 Seconds

A6 0-60 (MT): 6.0 seconds

S4 Wheelbase: 106.6

A6 Wheelbase: 108.6

S4 Horsepower: 250

A6 Horsepower: 250

S4 Steering: Non servotronic, power steering

A6 Steering: Servotronic (Vehicle speed variable steering) Hint: Very light.

S4 Weight: 3,593 lbs

A6 Weight: 3,759 lbs

(Only 166 pounds difference)

S4 Suspension: Sport oriented

A6 Suspension: Luxury oriented

S4 Brakes: Lucas 4 pin hp2 calipers in the front, regular discs in the back.

A6 Brakes: Lucas 4 pin hp2 calipers in the front, regular discs in the back.

Besides the A6 being a more generally luxurious car, I’d say the two are pretty similar.

Ahh...my 2001 S4 was my first sports car (and car with AC). I did some slight modifications to it; that thing was a hoot to drive!

However, the ESP button didn’t allow me to read minds. I was a bit put off by that.

Daaaamn. Audis don’t seem to age. A post facelift B5 is still one of my attainable dream cars.

I used to have a B5 A4 with the 12v 2.8

By the time I sold it with 140k, it was starting to get a bit tired. The engine had over 100k left in it though.

Ever since people clocked on that you get 500HP out of the B5, they’ve been sky-rocketing here. 2 years ago, you could pick one up for £2,000. Now you would be lucky to find a bad one under £5,000. Another effect is that B6 S4s have taken a dump to the point that they are now the cheapest S4s.

Good to know. An A5 B5/B6/B7 would be an awesome first car; at least in my Imagination haha.

Most would tell you that it is a real love/hate relationship with B5 S4s. It certainly was with mine. It’ll nickle and dime you to death then follow that by popping a turbo so you’re breaking out Benjamins. Certainly a timeless design that still looks good 15 years later.
